But for this purpose I have raised you up, to show you my power, so that my name may be proclaimed in all the earth.

--Exodus 9:16

If you look at Acts 1, verse 8, Jesus is about to ascend into heaven after His resurrection. And He says to His disciples, “But you shall be witnesses unto Me after the Holy Spirit is come upon you. And you shall be witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the uttermost parts of the earth.”

Christ made it clear that God’s plan for every Christian is a life of faithfulness to be a witness for Him. Unfortunately, most of us have this fear…or maybe reluctance…to share our faith. So how do we overcome these obstacles?

I believe there are two simple principles that will help you be the witness God desires you to be.

First, recognize the adequacy of Jesus Christ in you through His Holy Spirit. Jesus said, “You shall be my witnesses when the Holy Spirit is come upon you.” See, the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives makes us more than adequate for everything we need as a witness. And when we recognize who we are in Christ, we overcome our reluctance to share our faith.

Second, you and I must also develop certain skills that will help us share our faith. Now God can use even the most limited witness, but you and I should want to fully develop our evangelism skills as followers of Jesus Christ. And as you learn the skills to share your faith with others, God will use you under any circumstances, wherever you are.
