Body, Soul, And Spirit
If you have the bucks, you can book a healthy living spa vacation in exotic places on land and sea. Holistic is big business. Dieticians will get your diet right. Physical trainers will begin to tone those muscles and get that heart pumping healthy and strong. Licensed counselors will help you get in touch with your inner self and even spiritual guides will help you to get in touch with the powers and forces beyond yourself. Invest in a wellness retreat vacation and you will return a new person—body, soul, and spirit.
The Apostle Paul closes his first letter to the Thessalonians praying for the believers to have wholeness in body, soul, and spirit, but it’s going to take more than a dream vacation. It’s going to take walking under the control of the Spirit daily, and this precious Holy Spirit is far more patient and challenging than any personal trainer or counselor.
“Now may the God of peace set you apart for himself through and through. May your whole spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The One who is calling you is faithful. He will do it.” 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24
The Holy Spirit dwells in us today. His job is to keep us from indulging our cravings so that we won’t hurt ourselves or others by our actions. And he won’t stop transforming us until he presents us before the Lord Jesus at his coming. Body, soul, and spirit—we need to be all in in submitting ourselves to the Spirit’s control.
LORD, thanks that you promised in the resurrection to transform even our physical bodies. Help us to accept the union of our physical body with our immaterial selves, resting in the fact that we are completely whole in Jesus.
