The Right Lawyer

Psalm 119:153-152

George, one of my students in South Korea, wants to be a lawyer.  He was not only smart enough to ace his college entrance exams, but he also took a year to ground himself in God’s Word before beginning to prepare for a career in Law. With the increasing challenges against those seeking to practice biblical morality in our churches, colleges, and places of business, it looks like we might need some good lawyers like George on our side in the courtroom. My ultimate trust, however, is that the greatest lawyer in history is on my side. He pleads my case before the throne of heaven and wins every time.

Under the Old Covenant the psalmist asked God to act as his lawyer and plead his case. He wrote in Psalm 119:154

“Argue my case and redeem me! Give me life on account of your promise.”

In the New Testament God tells us about the New Covenant where God answered this prayer and that our appointed lawyer is none other than His Son.

“Who then is the one who condemns? Not one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.” Romans 8:34

LORD, the psalmist had to face a lot of opposition, and he often cried out for you to plead his case against his enemies. Help me to not fear the challenges that might come due to changing cultural attitudes. Help me to lovingly but boldly use every opportunity to share about Jesus and the power for life he provides.
