THE FOG OF WORRY
You may be familiar with the phrase the “fog of war” and we are in a war right now against an invisible enemy. The COVID-19 virus is wreaking havoc and spreading incredible fear. People are filled with worry about their health, their family, their finances and much more.
As we go through this Pandemic we may feel like we are walking through fog. We do not understand what is happening all around us. Circumstances occur that we have never experienced before. We can feel alone and sometimes are alone. We may even feel like no one cares. We do not see how we are going to make it through the crisis we are facing.
When fog surrounds us, we are not sure of what lies ahead. Fog is dangerous because it causes us to question what we know to be true. The fog of these present circumstances can tempt us to doubt God and His work in our lives. We long to see as far ahead as possible, certainly when will this crisis end, yet all we see is fog.
In those times of intense fog, we can be assured of God’s presence and goodness. We can trust God’s leading for the next step. Corrie ten Boom once said, "Faith is like radar which sees through the fog, the reality of things at a distance that the human eye cannot see." God wants us to have faith to take the next step of obedience.
Fog can blanket a city for seven blocks and be as much as 100 feet deep. Fog that deep can cause you to stop moving forward since you can’t see in front of you. But if you were to take that fog and change it into water, it would only fill a single glass of water.
We can be so filled with worry right now it seems like the fog is seven blocks wide and 100 feet deep. But with God on our side we can see this present crisis as a glass of water and we will overcome it. As Isaiah 41:10 tells us, “I will make you strong, as I protect you and give you victories.”
Our faith is certainly being tested. But we serve a God whose name is power. He is able to help us win this war. What we need to do is fight our worries, see through the fog with faith and trust God to bring us the victory.
