Exaggeration Opens the Door to Satan
Genesis 3:1-3.
1. Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, "Has God indeed said, 'You shall not eat of every tree of the garden'?"
2. And the woman said to the serpent, "We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden;
3. "but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, 'You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.'"
Eve told the serpent that God had said they were not to eat or even touch the fruit of the tree that was in the midst of the garden. But, according to Genesis 2:17, God had only said not to eat of it-–nothing about touching the tree was even mentioned. So, Eve lied on God by exaggerating and misrepresenting what the Lord had told her mate, Adam. This led not only to the demise of herself, but also the demise of her mate and ultimately her family and the entire human race!
Anything more or even short of the truth is a lie. Like it or lump it, exaggeration is still a lie regardless how small, seemingly harmless, or inconsequential it is. Exaggeration opens the door to Satan and will get you into trouble, especially when it comes to the things of God.
