God Cannot Lie

Hebrews 6:17-20. (NKJV)

17. Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath,

18. that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.

19. This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil,

20. where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.

Our God is so good! He not only has given us consolation (which in the original Greek means "comfort"), but has provided a means by which we can have strong consolation. God guarantees us that He is our strong comfort by giving us two immutable or unchanging assurances. The first of these is that He, God, cannot lie. Why can’t God lie? Because He has bound Himself to His Word through a blood covenant. So, if God cannot lie, then He will not lie to us!

Secondly, God says that when we run to Him for refuge, He will be our strong tower. He will provide the hope (which in the Greek translates as "one’s expectation" or "confidence") that is set before us. In other words, God says that He’s got what we seek and need and is willing and well able to provide it. So, it is with this confidence, this certainty -– knowing that God does not lie and that God in essence He says He "has our back" --- that we are able to come boldly to Him!
