New Creatures Have Old Flesh

 

 

 

II Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 

 

You are born again; you have become a new creature in Christ Jesus and old things have passed away - but all of this happens in the spirit, not in the flesh. This should be obvious. If you have false teeth the day before you get saved, you will still have them the day after. Old things did not pass away in the body. You are the same flesh you were before salvation. The "old things" that passed away are: alienation from God, spiritual death, condemnation and sin consciousness. All of those things passed away, but the body remained as it was. Thank God for the blood of Jesus through which we have redemption, even the forgiveness of our sins. We have the power and the ability to live a victorious life over sin and the influences of the flesh. But, our spirit must be in control of our thought life through the renewing our minds with the Word of God.
