True Promotion Is From God
Genesis 4:6-7 (NKJV)
6 So the Lord said to Cain, "Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen?
7 "If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it."
The Lord God told Cain that if he did well, he would be accepted. This word accepted comes from a Hebrew word meaning "an exaltation in rank or character," and it implies being in a state of cheerfulness. In other words, God was assuring Cain that he too could be exalted or promoted, and that this promotion would bring him happiness, unlike the anger and jealousy he was entertaining in his heart toward his brother.
Oftentimes the promotions you earn for yourself and receive from man turn out not to be all that you thought and hoped. Sometimes, you even end up wishing you had never been promoted. But this is not the case when you are promoted by the Lord. When God promotes you, you will have no regrets. Through this scripture, the Lord is telling you that true promotion -- true success -- does not come by getting what others have, but from doing what is right in the eyes of God. The kind of promotion you are seeking comes only from the Lord.
