What Are Living Sacrifices?

Romans 12:1,2 (NKJV)

1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

You can personalize this verse by saying, "God is beseeching me, by His mercies, to present my body as a living sacrifice. If "my" possesses a body, then "my" and body must be separate. If Paul was talking about body, soul and spirit all being one inseparable unit, he would have said, "Present yourself." When Paul tells us to present our bodies and renew our minds, he is talking to the spirit-part of us on the inside which is created in the image of the Father. Until Jesus returns, and we move into the fullness of the redemption process, the obligation about our bodies and our souls is on us.
