“How Hungry Are You?”
Matthew 5:6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.
Have you ever been hungry, but you really didn’t know what you wanted to eat? It is routine with a bunch of us after Sunday service to say, “Where are we eating today? Where do you want to eat? Don’t know, where do you want to eat?” Then we end up frustrated because none of us knows where we want to eat. What difference does it make what you want…..the question is, what do I want to eat!! One thing I have learned, if you’re really hungry, you won’t go around a mountain to get something, you’ll just go after it.
Here’s a tip, be careful not to just eat anything, but if it’s not what you really want you won’t be satisfied after you indulge. Now all of this is quite comical and I think we have all been there in reference to physical food; but how does this apply to our spiritual food? Does this scenario have the some of the same similarities as our physical intake? Absolutely!!
Think about this for a minute……When we are spiritually hungry, we gravitate to what we know can satisfy our spirit. Unless….we are too impatient; or maybe not exactly sure what it is we are hungry for. People in mainstream denominations are hungry for a move of God’s spirit, but for some they have no clue where or how to go about getting filled. There are dangers when we are hungry, we can easily settle for and consume something that is not scripturally sound. There are many counterfeits, and caution must be exercised to keep us safe during our hunger.
I am thrilled to have experienced many coming from those mainstream denominations filled with hunger and receiving all that God has for them. One sister said to me after receiving the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, “Why have I been running from this so long, this is exactly what I was searching for!” The hunger that is stirred is really that place in all of us that desires a more intimate walk with the Lord. We certainly live beneath our privilege as a Child of God. He has so much more for us if we will only seek Him with our whole heart.
When we are really hungry we won’t settle for second best, but we’ll go for the meat!! The meat of: God’s presence, power and word. As I travel ministering the gospel I am continually amazed at how the church is divided with hungry folk and those that are just doing their religious duty. For those that are hungry they are ready to pull out all the stops. There are no limits to their mindset of embracing God’s best for them. God responds to the hunger in our hearts. He desires to fill us to overflowing. Hungry hearts release a fragrance that the Lord delights in.
My prayer for you today is that you will be impregnated with a fresh hunger for His presence. And, that you won’t settle for a service here or there; a short lived thrill from a revival gone by, but that the hunger and satisfaction will become a part of you. I pray that you will long to live in God’s presence with no end. Seek God while He can be found; call upon Him while He is near…Only then will your hunger be truly satisfied!
Lord, we long for you and nothing else will do. Please touch those reading this devotional today and bring a satisfaction that only you can give. I pray that they will hunger for you above everything else. Help them to understand that true spiritual hunger that is filled touches every part of our life. Our spirit reflects us holistically. May they never be the same!
In Jesus’ Name!
Amen
