“And I, the Son of Man, have come to seek and save those like him who are lost.” - Luke 19:10

God is a bridge builder. When humanity’s relationship with God was spoiled, God began to build a bridge—a bridge he could walk over to seek lost humanity. That bridge was Jesus Christ. Why did God bother with sinful humanity? Because he loves us. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son.” Not only did he give, but he seeks. God is a seeking God. He came in Christ Jesus “to seek and save those . . . who are lost” (Luke 19:10).

Jesus told some stories to illustrate how God seeks people and wants to save them. In the first story, a shepherd realized that he had lost a precious sheep, and so went and searched diligently until he found the straying animal. He was so happy when he found the sheep that he had a party (Luke 15:6). In the same way, there is joy in heaven every time the heavenly Father finds a straying human being, for he came to “save those . . . who are lost” (Luke 19:10).

God wants to save you! He wants you to come to him through faith in his Son. The Bible says that the angels rejoice when even one sinner comes to Christ (Luke 15:10). There’s a party being planned in heaven, and you’re the guest of honor! Respond to God, for he is seeking you. What joy—for you and for all of heaven—when he finds you!
