And so, dear friends, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. This is the new, life-giving way that Christ has opened up for us through the sacred curtain, by means of his death for us. - Hebrews 10:19-20

In times past, the priest was the mediator between God and Israel. Since the Resurrection of Christ, he alone is the “one Mediator who can reconcile God and people” (1 Timothy 2:5). He is our High Priest. Israel’s high priest would enter the Most Holy Place where God dwelt and offer the blood of a lamb as a sacrifice for the people, that they might be made one with God.

When Jesus’ flesh was rent on Calvary, the veil or curtain that hung across the entrance into the Most Holy Place was also torn in two, making entrance into God’s presence possible. We can call God “Father” and come freely before him to “find grace to help us when we need it” (Hebrews 4:16).

When our children were growing up, their father traveled a great deal. When he returned, he needed to catch up with mountains of work that were always waiting for him. Since his study was at home, I tried to keep the door shut and the children outside! But he would always open the door and tell me to leave it that way. “I want the kids to know I am always accessible to them,” he would say. The children would run in and out whenever they had a need or a want, a kiss or a hug for Daddy.

That is how our Father in heaven would have it, too; Jesus made that possible!
