Jupiter’s Journey to the Sun
“Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?”
A recent article about Jupiter was a textbook lesson in how deep-time scientists confuse fact and theory, science and supposition. The article, on the popular Science Daily website, began like this: “The giant planet Jupiter was formed four times further from the sun than its current orbit, and migrated inwards in the solar system over a period of 700,000 years.”
The writer seems very definite about his facts. But the question that should be occurring to creationists is this: What makes him think that Jupiter was formed four times further away from the sun than it currently is?
Astronomers have been fascinated by recent discoveries of exoplanets. The main purpose for their looking for exoplanets – planets orbiting stars other than our sun – is their search for evolved life elsewhere. But many of the earliest discovered exoplanets were gas giants, like Jupiter. Yet, instead of being far from their star, like Jupiter, most of these were in close orbit to their star and were often labeled “hot Jupiters”. Previously, deep-time scientists thought they understood how gas giants like Jupiter must have formed. Therefore, these hot Jupiters must have formed far from their stars and moved inwards. That supposition is their “proof”.
Finally, to make sure all their ideas fit together, they have to assume that Jupiter, likewise, is on a journey inwards to the Sun. Their theories are constantly adapted because they refuse to accept that God made these planets on Day Four of creation.
