This message finishes Ezekiel 32, where Egypt (as a type of the world) becomes the backdrop for a sweeping “day of the Lord” picture: God will one day darken sun, moon, and stars, topple Satan and the nations that followed him, and consign unrepentant rebels to a very real, eternal hell—described as the pit, the nether parts of the earth, outer darkness, and unending torment. From there the opening of Ezekiel 33 turns the spotlight on believers as watchmen, charged to warn people of this coming judgment; if we’ve been bought with a price and belong to Christ, our lives are not our own, and we are responsible to use our time, gifts, and voice to call others to repentance while there is still time.
