- Christmas, Mary, & Jesus Christ, Immanuel

The Christmas story is full of miracles, but does the miraculous virgin birth of Christ really matter? Is it important that Jesus Christ was born from a virgin? It turns out that the significance of Jesus Christ’s special birth is crucial to the faith and salvation of all. Mary did not just carry a baby like any other woman would, she carried a hope, savior, king, and son of God to be with man on earth. The Christmas story is about Immanuel, God with us, and how Jesus came to save the world.

It is because of Jesus Christ that we are saved from our sins. Without Jesus being born of that miraculous birth, the world could not be saved from sin. The book of Matthew declares that this special baby is the one who will save the world.

She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.

Take a moment to realize the significance of the prophecy that this baby will save the world. Not only was this pregnancy without typical conception a complete surprise but the baby Mary was given will save everyone from their sins.

Jeff Shreve gives us three major points on why the virgin birth of Jesus Christ is crucial to the Christian faith. See what they are in this video.

Jesus Christ is the savior who is both God and man who can lay His hands upon us, taking sinful man in one hand and Holy God in the other to bring them together because of the power and blood of His cross. But if Jesus was never born of a virgin, then the Bible is not true, and Jesus is not God-man, and the people will all die spending eternity in hell.

It is a key truth that Jesus Christ was born of a virgin.

Scripture makes it very clear that Jesus was born of a virgin. Later in the marriage between Joseph and Mary they had other children. James, was Jesus’ half brother so we know that Joseph did keep Mary a Virgin until the birth of Christ and later they had they own children. In 2 Peter, it states that the Bible is not false or a collection of myths and stories. The account of the birth of Christ is directly from those who witnessed His birth in person.

The Bible is not the word of men subject to sin, it is the word of God, perfect and truthful. “For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty.” 2 Peter 1:16

Believers today can take heart in the truth declared in the Bible and that Christ really was born a virgin because it means that from the very beginning of it all, Christ was king. Christ was known from that moment He was of a higher power, a royal power.

Peter mentions he witnessed, “His majesty.” In one word Peter lets us know that the birth of the savior is not only a miracle, but it is sovereign, it is clear that this is the king who can save the world. The story of Christmas is full of miracles, but the most important one of all is that a true king was born of a virgin so that He could grow up to take payment of sin upon himself, giving everlasting life to all those who believe in Him.
